Lana Del Rey's Ultraviolence peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Fresh off that success, she sat down with BBC Radio 1 host Zane Lowe (via NME) to talk about the making of the album and how working with Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys made her feel interesting.

She told him that she can't make music unless she feels comfortable in her environment.

"Obviously, it's impossible to write a record if you don't feel really sensual about it and confident," she told Lowe. "And I think for me, what makes me confident changes every day... but generally I would say confidence for me just comes from being really happy and that could be anything down to my environment or being lucky enough to have my muse with me, [or hearing] a really amazing melody for the first time."

When Auerbach was brought up in the interview, she expanded upon her previous statement, saying that his presence made her feel comfortable.

"At the point I met Dan I didn't feel that confident. It sounds strange but him being interested in me made me feel interesting. He was a guy and he just kind of treated me like this New Yorker girl who wanted to make a record and was like, 'Hey, let's just see what happens.' But he was in love with the songs."

Ultraviolence was the follow-up Del Rey's 2012 debut, Born To Die. Auerbach produced a number of tracks from the record, including the lead single "West Coast."
