Steven Spielberg recently showed his support for Oprah Winfrey. The famed director said that if the talk show host decides to run for president in 2020, he will back her up.

Steven Spielberg Praises Oprah Winfrey

Spielberg clarified that Winfrey does not have actual plans to run for president, but he will not hesitate to endorse her if she changes her mind.

"I think Oprah Winfrey would make an absolutely brilliant president. If she declares, I will back her. She's been on the air for 35 years with all kinds of social outreach, building bridges between different ideologies and different points of view," said Spielberg.

The Memoirs Of A Geisha director added that he thinks Winfrey is fit to rule the country because she is an expert on women's issues. He also dubbed his good friend as an "ambassador of empathy."

Spielberg believes that Americans need an empathetic leader in the White House who will understand and put them first at all times.

"I think Oprah has already proved her capacity for selflessness," the director stated.

Hollywood Backs Oprah Winfrey

Predictions about Winfrey's possible campaign first came to light after the Golden Globes on Sunday, Jan. 7. She gave a speech on behalf of the #MeToo movement against sexual harassment.

Winfrey's speech went viral, and celebrities started suggesting that the host should consider running in 2020. Seth Meyers triggered further speculations about Winfrey running for president in his show, Late Night With Seth Meyers.

In his opening spiel, he recounted a 2011 incident wherein he told Donald Trump that he was unqualified to become president of the United States. However, Meyers' comment seemed to convince Trump to run for office.

"And if that's true, I would just like to say Oprah you will never be president," said Meyers.

Meryl Streep also said that she wants Winfrey to run for president especially after she "launched a rocket" last week. Even though she still has not made any announcements, Streep thinks that Winfrey has no other choice but to run for office because of the support she has received so far.

Billy Gilman also took his thoughts to social media and begged his friend to run for president in two years.

Singer Janelle Monae also expressed her excitement over the possibility of Winfrey not only being her pastor, but also her president.

Comedian Larry Wilmore even used the hashtag "Oprah2020" in his tweet.
