FX has ordered a TV reboot of the vampire mockumentary What We Do in the Shadows, three years after it premiered as a horror film in 2014.

Talks about a potential TV pilot for the film has been going on for some time with Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok) and Jemaine Clement (Flight of the Conchords), who served both as writers and directors for the film. With no other network contenders, FX eventually ordered a half-hour comedy pilot with the pair signed to executive produce the show. Waititi will also direct and Clement will pen the screenplay for the series.

Other executive producers of the series aside from Waititi and Clement are Eli Bush (Ladybird), Scott Rudin (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), Paul Simms (Atlanta), and Garrett Basch (The Night Of).

FX's What We Do in the Shadows reboot also signed in a new cast for the pilot. These include Harvey Guillen (The Internship) Kayvan Novak (Thunderbirds Are Go), Matt Berry (House of Fools), and British stand-up comedian Natasia Demetriou (Year Friends).

Berry plays a character named Lazslo, a goofy vampire, the type who makes fun of himself by turning into a bat and flying into a wall. Demetriou is Nadja, the badass female vampire, Novak is the head vampire Nandor, and Guillen plays Nandor's assistant. It is unclear if Waititi and Clement will also star in the show as they did in the movie.

Waititi previously mentioned that the setting of the series would be in the United States instead of in New Zealand. This would give the creators plenty of comedic material to work around with during production.

Not much is known about the plot of the What We Do in the Shadows pilot and its release date. However, given that the series is based on the film, then viewers should expect it to revolve around the abovementioned characters.

The 2014 movie explores the lives of four vampires named Deacon, Viago, Petyr, and Vladislav who all live in the same household in the city of Wellington. The roommates do not get along well with each other. They constantly squabble over minor things like household chores. They struggle to keep up with their strict diet and keep up to speed with the latest trends in technology. Aside from vampires, the film also features werewolves.

The trailer for the horror comedy film What We Do in the Shadows will give viewers an idea about the context of the TV reboot.
