This coming July 29 will mark the release date of Eric Clapton's forthcoming studio album, The Breeze. The record is an LP of tunes originally recorded by the recently deceased JJ Cale.

The southern guitarist happens to be one of Clapton's idols, and his work is of no stranger to Slowhand, who has covered his material before with hits and crowd-favorites "Cocaine" and "After Midnight."

Clapton's new album will feature the likes of John Mayer, Tom Petty, Mark Knopfler, Willie Nelson and Derek Trucks as guests. The guitarist has released two of the LP's tracks, including Cale's "Cajun Moon" and "Call Me The Breeze" – which can both be heard below.

Clapton is in the current issue of Rolling Stone. In the feature interview, he tells the mag, "When I started talking about this album with Dave Kaplan, who runs Surfdog (Clapton's label), he had only heard the JJ songs that I covered. In Europe, we heard JJ as Americana, all the roots put together. JJ was very self-critical, dismissive about his gifts. He was happy to just be known as a songwriter. But when I tried to play like him –– it's beyond most musicians."

As mentioned, John Mayer will be appearing as a guest on The Breeze. The "Who You Love" singer also covered Cale's "Call Me The Breeze" on his latest album Paradise Valley, which you can listen to below:

Just last month, it was reported by Music Times that Clapton may be stepping away from the road after the current engagements for The Breeze, so if you're looking to get a glimpse of the legendary guitarist onstage, you may want to act quick.
