Alternative rock legends Ben Folds and Cake are uniting for an epic trek across the United States that will kickoff in August.
The tour, called "An Evening With Cake and Ben Folds," will also feature Tall Heights as a special guest.
So far, the co-headlining summer tour has scheduled performances in 10 cities, starting in Boston on Aug. 13. The tour ends with a performance in Indianapolis on Aug. 25.
Legends On 1 Stage
On his official page, Folds announced the trek and issued an official statement praising Cake and Tall Heights.
"CAKE — my rough contemporaries, comrades and heroes — to me, they make universal, poetic, identifiable music with a groove. I've learned a lot from these guys and I'm proud as punch to be on tour with them this summer," the singer-songwriter wrote. "I'm telling my friends to get there early enough for Tall Heights — a great addition to this bill."
Folds has not released a solo album since 2008 when Way to Normal came out, but his most recent work was a collaborative album titled So There with the yMusic Ensemble released back in 2015.
He is also currently an Artistic Advisor to the National Symphony Orchestra.
On a statement, John McCrea, vocalist and lyricist of Cake, returned the love by praising Fold and his enduring legacy in the music industry.
"We are very much looking forward to touring with Ben Folds. In a culture often conflicted about its relationship to melody, and songwriting generally, Ben continues unapologetically to provide melodic clarity and musicality," he said. "I am also looking forward to hearing Tall Heights. This co-headline line up seems like a good combination of musical styles — disparate but not antithetical to each other — and it should be a solid evening of music."
Cake's most recent album was Showroom of Compassion released in 2011.
"Ben Folds has been a friend to us, a tour partner in the past, and for a long time we have had great respect for him," stated trumpeter Vincent DiFiore. "Cake is looking forward to expressing our identity through music this summer, and the chemistry of our evening together with Ben and his band will be an inspiring jolt for us and the audience."
Tickets to the co-headlining summer tour will be on sale starting Friday, April 6, via Folds' and Cake's official website. However, a presale for Artist and VIP packages will be available on Tuesday, April 3. Fans can also expect special presale offers from Live Nation, Live Nation mobile app, Spotify, and local venues/radio stations in the coming days.
