J. Cole's KOD album, which was released on Thursday, consists of 12 songs. The fifth studio album is the singer's follow-up to 4 Your Eyez Only.

Prior to the release of the album, the meaning behind KOD was revealed via three album trailers. The initials stand for "Kids on Drugs." In the trailer, J. Cole explains how people's first response to any problem is to medicate.

In the second clip, it was revealed that KOD could also mean "King Overdosed." The third meaning behind the three-letter title is "Kill Our Demons."

"That's representing me, the times that I was, and am, afflicted by the same methods of escape," said J. Cole in reference to the second meaning of his album title.

On his Twitter account, the American hip-hop artist told his followers that the rest of the meaning to KOD is open to their interpretation.

'KOD' Tracklist

Earlier this week, J. Cole also dropped the album artwork for KOD. It features a disturbed-looking king whose insides are filled with children taking drugs. On the cover, the singer said that his latest project is not intended to glorify addiction.

The songs in KOD include "Intro," "KOD," "Photograph," "The Cut Off" (feat. Kill Edward), "ATM," "Motiv8," "Kevin's Heart," "Brackets," "Once an Addict (Interlude)," "Friends (feat. Kill Edward)," "Window Pain (Outro)," and "1985 (Intro to the Fall Off)."

J. Cole Talks About His Faith, Religion

Earlier this year, J. Cole also made headlines after he had spoken candidly about religion as well as his experiences with faith.

"It hit a point where I had to question it for the first time. I felt bad about it. I felt guilty. For even having a negative thought about it. I went and got baptized, started reading The Bible, and I was scared as f***. Then it hit a point in my life where I just fell off and said, 'I'll let the answer come. As I got older, I felt like I got a personal understanding of what God is to me, a strong belief too," said J. Cole.
