The Backstreet Boys met and sang with fans during an elevator gag as part of their return appearance on MTV's TRL.

The Backstreet Boys Returns To 'TRL'

In a recent episode, the popular boy band took over the "TRLevator" where they got to perform their classic hits with the unsuspecting audience. At first, only one or two of the five-member band appeared inside the elevator but, soon after, the rest of the gang joined in for impromptu jam sessions.

The band also joined TRL host Sway Calloway inside the studio where they got to talk about their enduring relevance in the music industry. The boys also discussed how they remain a boy band when other groups, such as NSYNC and One Direction, have broken up for each member to pursue solo careers.

"I think we're meant to be the five of us," said Kevin Richardson. "Some of us have ventured out and done solo projects, but none of 'em blew up like [Justin Timberlake]. I think that happened for a reason. Because we're meant to be together. When the five of our voices come together, we make a very unique, distinct sound and it's Backstreet Boys."

The Backstreet Boys also got to look back into their iconic but mostly questionable fashion choices back in the day. Even AJ McLean had to admit that his signature goggles were kind of ridiculous.

The Backstreet Boys Fever Continue

2018 is a big year for the popular 90s boy band. In April, they celebrated 25 years of making music and performing in front of screaming fans.

They commemorated the celebration with a throwback photo from back when they were just teenagers.

They also posted a short video from when they performed at a grad night in SeaWorld Orlando back in 1993. This was before the boy group released their self-titled debut album.

The 90s sensation also recently dropped a new song titled "Don't Go Breaking My Heart," which they performed at the 2018 CMT Music Awards. Since then, the song has entered the Billboard Hot 100 where it peaked at the 99th spot. It currently sits at the 23rd spot of the Pop Songs singles chart.

The Backstreet Boys also continue to perform at the Zappos Theater at Planet Hollywood as part of their Las Vegas residency that will extend until November.
