Popstar Madonna is now facing criticisms on social media over her opinion about the recent coronavirus pandemic issue. She says on her Instagram account that the virus is a significant equalizer. She says this while in her bathtub filled with rose petals, according to CBS News.

According to Madonna on her post last Sunday on Instagram, the thing about COVID-19 is "It doesn't care about how rich you are, how famous you are, how funny you are, how smart you are, where you live, how old you are, what amazing stories you can tell."

She continues on her video, saying, "It's the great equalizer and what's terrible about it is what's great about it." She explains that it the virus made people equal in many ways, and it is also what's wonderful about it. "We're all in the same boat. And if the ship goes down, we're all going down together", she continues.

She references her latest rendition of her single "Human Nature" that she sang on her recent Madame X Tour.

The Backlash

Madonna's video has attracted criticisms from other celebrities and even from followers. They accused her of being out of touch or disconnected from what is happening right now.

CNN reported that her video was flooded with many negative comments, with one saying that she should not romanticize the situation.

Blogger Perez Hilton slammed Madonna's statement in the video. He said that he loves her, but her statement is not fit for what is happening now. He stressed that rich persons have better access to COVID-19 tests than an average person has.

One Instagram user echoed Perez's statement. User @shamey_ames said that while ordinary people and health workers struggle, famous people like artists and athletes get tested fast.

Some users slammed the video itself. One user ridicules the video of the singer. The user says that while other people make do with the bare essentials like sanitizers and soap, Madona is making videos about petalled nipples due to her location.

Another user compares the pandemic to a sinking ship, in which everyone is going down, while Madonna is in a bathtub. Madonna was encouraged by the user to be more empathic to people who are more vulnerable but less privileged.

Madonna removed her video from her Instagram account.

COVID-19

According to John Hopkins University, there are now more than 300,000 victims of the coronavirus with almost 14,000 deaths in all countries affected. The most affected countries are the U.S., Italy, Spain, and the United Kingdom. The origin of the virus was Wuhan, Hubei, China.

Many are now trying to contain the virus as health workers are on the frontlines. People are encouraged to boost their immune system, weak masks, stay sanitized, and practice social distancing. Everyone, ordinary people and celebrities alike, are asked to stay home.

Forbes notes that the coronavirus has affected freelancers and gig workers. Several industries, including the music industry, are affected.  Events like concerts and festivals are even canceled as a consequence of the virus spread.
