Is it not a pleasant surprise to see some of the music favorites cross over to the movies unexpectedly?  Imagine seating comfortably, enjoying a great motion picture you are looking forward to watching and picking on the popcorn, and out of nowhere, boom, someone familiar pops out.  Isn't that... you begin to wonder. Or it could be your favorite music artist suddenly appears as themselves, and gives a touch of reality to an otherwise completely fictional plot. Seems like we are getting the best of both worlds.

In Hollywood, where motion pictures are given more life with the original music soundtrack, it is not unusual to invite music artists to play a bit of a role for the silver screen. Here is a list of the artists who appeared even for a few minutes of acting roles in memorable films. Yes, everyone loves a celebrity doing cameos.

  • Michael Jackson in "Men In Black 2" - "The King of Pop" made a sudden appearance as an undercover alien intelligence officer reporting to his colleague in the second installment of the top-grossing Sci-Fi franchise comedy. It was a well-applauded surprise for the moviegoers during this part of the movie.

  • David Bowie in "Zoolander"  -  The legendary rocker played an expert judge for a runway "walk-off" to decide between Zoolander Derek, Ben Stiller's character, and his nemesis Hansel, played by Owen Wilson as the best male model. Ben Stiller later paid tribute to Bowie in Zoolander 2 after he passed away, and recalled how he was in awe when the rock icon accepted this role.

  • Elton John in "Kingsman: The Golden Circle"  - The flamboyant singer/songwriter is not hard to spot in the film at all as he appears in most of its action sequence.  Could you believe he has his fair share of fight scenes as himself being kidnapped? Rejecting a role in "Kingsman 1," he had no second thoughts of being in the sequel after watching the first drop.

  • Mariah Carey in "Don't Mess with the Zohan" - The sultry singer sang the national anthem as herself for a group of Palestinians and affected them in ways beyond patriotism. One of the funniest moments in the film shows some of the Palestinians having a hard-on while she sings, including Rob Schneider's character who had the biggest boner of them all.

  • Britney Spears in "Austin Powers: Goldmember" - The pop star emerged as a fembot shooting her music video of "Boys" when Austin Powers barged in. They battled it out in a dance-off which ended in Austin Powers winning and Spears being demolished into smithereens.
