A source recently told Variety that J.Balvin and Roddy Ricch will no longer be performing at the 2020 MTV Video Music Awards. 

MTV previously touted an ambitious agenda to push through with the Video Music Awards amidst the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, boasting a power-packed artist line-up. However, it appears that there are numerous last-minute changes. The VMA's stresses that they are putting the health and safety of their employees and partners to the utmost importance.

Roddy Ricch is one of the breakout stars of the year, rising to fame with the hit song "The Box". J.Balvin, on the other hand, is a famous star known for his elaborate stage sets and charisma when performing. Despite those two pullings out from the performer's line-up, the Video Music Awards still boasts quite an impressive line-up. Some of the artists slated to perform for the awards show include Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande, The Weeknd, BTS, Miley Cyrus, Doja Cat, DaBaby, Maluna, CNCO, and the Black Eyes Peas. Additional artists are to be announced in the upcoming days.

The show was originally set to take place at the iconic Brooklyn's Barclays Center, with several performances to be staged at various iconic locations across New York City, the ongoing coronavirus pandemic has scrapped those plans entirely. Producers have abanded the Barclays and New York City plans and have set their sights to host the award show at a soundstage in Los Angeles instead.

Ariana Grande and Lady Gaga raked in the most nominations for this year's awards show, each bagging nine nominations. Billie Eilish and The Weeknd have snagged six nominations themselves. All four mentioned artists are currently nominated for "Video of the Year".

The MTV Video Music Awards will air live on Sunday, August 30th at 8 PM Pacific Standard Time. 

The VMAs was first created in 1984 and was originally made as an alternative to the Grammy Awards for the video category. It has since been known as the "Super Bowl for Youth", known for drawing in millions of youths, from teens to 20-somethings  each year. Winners of the VMAs take home a "Moon Person" statue, which was formerly known as a "Moon Man". It is known as a coveted award in the music industry. Winners are selected through the fan vote, in which people can select who they want to win for each category by vising MTV's website.

The VMAs annually occur before the end of summer, held in either late August or mid-Septemeber. 

Roddy Ricch is an American rapper, singer, and songwriter. He released his first two mixtapes in 2017 and 2018, with his 2018 mixtape "Feed Tha Streets II" peaking at number 67 on the US Billboard 200. Throughout his career, Ricch has been nominated for three Grammy awards and has won one. Additionally, he has been nominated for five BET awards, and has won two.

J.Balvin is a Colombian reggaton singer and is often referred to as the "Price of Reggaeton". Heis one of the best-selling Latin music artists in the world, selling more than 35 million records worldwide. He has also been named as the Contemporary Latin Songwriter of the Year for his contribution to the Latin music industry. He has also won the first Global Icon Award from the Lo Nuestro Awards for his contributions to the spread of Latin music. He is the first Latino to headline musical festival events such as Coachella, Tomorrowland, and Lollapalooza. He is also known as the "leader of second-generation reggaton" by the Guinness World Records.
