Since Mark Lanegan has previously collaborated with other artists in the past, including Kurt Cobain, he also shared a bond with Dave Grohl as he was a former member of the latter's iconic band, Nirvana. More recently, the Foo Fighters frontman paid tribute to his late pal by recalling the singer's music.

Speaking to The Independent UK, as reported by 102.7 KIIS FM, the two renowned musicians became friends in the early 1990s.

Grohl recalled the time when he first joined Nirvana, saying he and Cobain were living in a tiny apartment.

During one weekend, the late frontman invited him to go to Seattle to "hang out with a friend." They later stayed with his friend named Dylan before going to a concert.

Later on, he passed out on the couch and woke up the next day in shock as he saw Mark Lanegan in front of him. Grohl can still remember his first words, saying, "who the f*** are you?"

The former drummer was surprised because, at the time, he just listened to Lanegan's first record titled "The Winding Sheet."

Grohl later shared his personal sentiments about the late musician's music, saying the album was a masterpiece during his time.

"If you know anything about his story or have read any of his books, you'll understand why he sang what he did and why he sand it the way he did; there was nobody like him. In Seattle, he was much loved," he noted.

Dave Grohl's recent tribute comes a few days after the news of Mark Lanegan's death shocked the music industry.

According to an official statement issued through his social media accounts, the Screaming Trees frontman has passed away on February 22 at his home in Killarney, Ireland. He was 57.

Lanegan's cause of death remains a mystery as his family asks the public for privacy.

The singer struggled with alcoholism, drug addiction, and a lengthy arrest record throughout his career. He later entered rehab with the help of the Musician's Assitance Program.

In 2021, Lanegan tested positive for COVID-19, which left him in and out of a coma.

After the news of his death circulated online, many musicians also paid tribute to him, including bassist Peter Hook, Eddie Vedder, and many more.
