The Memphis Music Hall of Fame was established in 2012 and included music icons with links to Memphis, such as B.B. King. King, Otis Redding, Carla Thomas, Tina Turner, Three 6 Mafia, and Elvis Presley are among the artists that have performed at the festival.

The ceremony for the Memphis Music Hall is expected to happen sometime this Fall 2022.

Memphis Music Hall of Fame Class of 2022

Grammy-winning singer, Rock and Roll Hall, and Blues Hall of Famer Mavis Staples are among the eight new Hall of Famers. Staples was part of the American gospel, soul, and R&B singing group "The Staple Singers," which rose to prominence in the 1970s.

Chart-topper and renowned country music artist Ronnie Milsap were also inducted into this year's class. Along with him is Elvis Presley's former wife, Priscilla Presley, for her work at Graceland.

Memphis-born blues and jazz saxophonist Fred Ford was also inducted.

Prominent rockabilly musician Billy Lee Riley and drummer Jimmy Van Eaton were also added to this year's roster.

Grammy Lifetime Achievement Awardee Booker Taliaferro Jones is a shoo-in, as he was also inducted in 2012 through Stax greats Booker T. and the MGs. Jones' solo career as an artist and producer includes production credits in Bill Withers' debut "Just As I Am" and Willie Nelson's "Stardust."

The list was topped by Grammy-winning producer and engineer Jim Gaines, whose work has appeared on albums by the Steve Miller Band's "Fly Like an Eagle," Van Morrison's "St. Dominic's Preview," and George Thorogood's "Bad to the Bone."

Memphis Music Hall's Diverse Roster of Inductees

Memphis Rock N' Soul Museum, the overseer of the Memphis Music Hall of Fame, Executive Director John Doyle correlated this year's "diverse" inductees on the "diversity of Memphis music" itself.

"Rock, soul, blues, rockabilly, even country permeate the 2022 roster, with many of these icons still doing what they do...creating music," he explained.

Doyle added that they had experienced difficulty in choosing this year's roster because of hundreds of Memphis musicians deserving for honor, especially with the annual emergence of new musical candidates.

He pointed out that despite others having more name recall or Grammy awards, the Hall shall maintain relevance as they will honor the newest inductees as important as the first ones ten years ago.
