J Balvin has been one of the biggest Latin artists to date. Although he has been quite public about it, he has been suffering from a major mental health issue lately.

And in a recent appearance, he details the grueling journey he has gone through over the past few years.

J Balvin Mental Health Status: Is He Finally Getting Better?

Joining the Wall Street Journal's the Future of Everything Festival last Tuesday, J Balvin finally opened up about the current status of his mental health. (via PEOPLE Magazine)

"I never thought that I was going to suffer about mental health. I remember seeing people go to the psychiatric and I would be like, 'Why are they going there? They're crazy,'" he said.

Balvin not only pointed out how the stigma clouded his impression of mental health disorders before, but he also alluded to the fact that the stigma has been normalized in the Latinx community (and even globally) before.

He also confessed how grateful he is for discovering the "balance" he achieved after being prescribed medication.

"It depends on what level you have, but I never thought that I was going to be medicated," he said. "Which I feel really blessed because I have a way to ... you need chemicals to balance your chemicals," the Reggaeton singer explained.

J Balvin Mental Health Advocacy

His appearance at the Wall Street Journal festival coincides with the introduction of his new mental health initiative - his new mental health and wellness app, OYE.

This is not the first time that Balvin has been vocal about his mental health advocacy. Last 2020, he opened up on En La Sala with Becky G podcast about how he threaded some of the most challenging parts of his life.

He also wrote an emotive essay to PEOPLE Magazine in the same year revealing how meditation has helped his anxiety and depression at the time.

"Mental health doesn't care about your age, your race, your background; none of those things. It doesn't care what you look like, or who you're dating, or how much money you have in the bank. Of course, it's different for each of us. But it affects all of us," the 37-year-old star wrote.

Based on his recent appearance, it might be highly likely that Balvin is getting better - but as complicated, as the matter is, fans cannot know for sure.
