After Stranger Things broke the internet last weekend, fans of the hit Netflix Show did what they did to Kate Bush's Running Up That Hill last month to Metallica's Masters of Puppets - stream it non-stop.

Metallica's 1986 hit song of the same album name rocked headlines over the weekend as fans of Stranger Things have finally heard the song Joseph Quinn's character Eddie Munson was playing in the upside-down dimension.

Since then, streaming on Metallica's Master of Puppets has spiked - mirroring the early movements of Kate Bush's Running Up That Hill on its first week.

But fans are now curious what led the Duffer Brothers to decide Metallica's Master of Puppets as the best fit for the Stranger Things Season 4 breathtaking finale.

Metallica's 'Master of Puppets' Used On Stranger Things Season 4 Finale

Music played a huge role in Stranger Things Season 4. Used as the antidote to the main antagonist's trance, Sadie Sink's character, Max Mayfield's favorite song has sparked a whole generation of Kate Bush fans as Running Up The Hill was blasted on the show's epic Episode 4 "Dear Billy."

However, Metallica's Master of Puppets was used differently than Kate Bush's hit.

In the Stranger Things Season 4 Finale, Eddie Munson (Joseph Quinn) grabbed his electric guitar and blasted the 1986 hit for the "most metal concert ever."

The song was Quinn's character's favorite song, but it was not used against Vecna, the main antagonist - but it was used to lure away the Demobats on Vecna's lair so that Steve (Joe Keery), Robin (Maya Hawke), and Nancy (Natalia Dwyer) to enter.

Stranger Things Music Supervisor Nora Felder disclosed to Variety more behind-the-scenes info on the now-iconic scene.

Felder confirmed that Joseph Quinn took the time to learn the guitar riff and was actually playing along to the track.

Aside from this, Felder also pointed out that it was a "clear choice" for the team to play Metallica's Master of Puppets in the exhilarating scene.

Master of Puppets perfectly encapsulated Munson's complex character and struggle.

"The Talisman-like qualities of Eddie's guitar and punk metal music help him reconnect to his closely-guarded traits of love, care, and courage," Felder pointed out.

The drugs which were prominently featured in the Metallica classic also referenced the main antagonist Vecna - sharing similarities on their life-destroying powers that rob people of their essential personal powers.

Felder also revealed that Metallica signed off the track easily, even highlighting that they were also fans of the show. The show has also used the band's The Four Horsemen in Season 2.

Stranger Things is currently streaming on Netflix worldwide.
