Foo Fighters may be intact as a band, but some members also release solo music in their spare time without ultimately leaving the group. This is what guitarist Chris Shiflett did as he dropped the lyric video of his new track recently.

According to People Magazine, the musician released the song "Long, Long Year," which was recorded with Vance Powell in Nashville.

Aside from the Grammy Award-winning producer, Shiflett also collaborated with some of the most talented artists in the industry, like Jack Lawrence of The Raconteurs for the bass, Eagles of Death Metal's Julian Doro for drums, and Mike Webb for keyboard.

Luke Schneider and Sierra Hull were also credited in the song.

In an interview with Consequence of Sound, the singer said the song revolves around his feelings throughout the COVID-19 pandemic as everyone was isolated with one another.

"The first thing I had for this song was the chorus, but I didn't wanna write a song specifically about COVID, so I kinda worked it into a sad love song," he said.

Shiflett noted that the vibe of the song stemmed from "isolation, loneliness, and missing my normal life."

During the first part of the lockdown, the band member said he spent most of his time at his studio in Los Angeles, California, and he was "woodshedding tunes."

The lyrics "It's been a long, long year" has been in his head for "obvious reasons," so he did his best to transform it into a love song.

Shiflett is the first band member of Foo Fighters to release solo music since Taylor Hawkin's "KOTA" in 2016.

The drummer passed away early this year, hours before their set at a music festival in Bogotá, Colombia. He died at the age of 50 after complaining of chest pains in his hotel room.

Although the official cause of death has not been publicized, initial toxicology reports revealed that they found traces of over ten types of substances in his body, including tricyclic antidepressants, THC (marijuana), opioids, and benzodiazepines.

Regarding the sound of the song, Shiflett said it was inspired by the alternative music scene in the 90s.

"Overall the vibe in my head was pretty '90s, like '90s soft alt-pop roots or something, It just felt like something that maybe woulda been on the radio in 1997," he added.

"Long, Long Year's" lyric video is available on YouTube, but the song's wide release will be on Friday, July 29.
