Last July, The Recording Academy released the official rules and guidelines for the 65th Annual GRAMMY Awards.

Coming along with the official document are new rules and guidelines for the eligibility of works for the nomination process.

Notably, this year, The Recording Academy has declared that "updated, revised, or expanded versions" of previously submitted albums will not be eligible.

Taylor Swift's 'Red (Taylor's Version)' Eligible for GRAMMY Nods

The new rule sent Taylor Swift fans worrying if the newly-released "Red (Taylor's Version) could be eligible.

At the time, Billboard sought The Recording Academy's clarification on the eligibility loophole.

Since all of the tracks coming on the reclaimed version of "Red," it could mean that the 2021 album could not be eligible.

The Recording Academy confirmed to Billboard that "Red (Taylor's Version)" would be eligible for nominations "as it is a new recording."

This puts Swifties at ease knowing that the record-breaking "Red (Taylor's Version)" could be recognized by The Recording Academy.

'All Too Well (10 Minute Version)' NOT Eligible for Song of the Year Nomination?

However, a new Billboard article causes confusion again after the publication noted that "All Too Well (10 Minute Version)" suggests that the song may not be eligible for the Song of the Year Award, pending The Recording Academy's final ruling.

This is because according to the 65th Annual GRAMMY Awards Official Rules and Guidelines, a nominee for Song of the Year should comprise melody and lyrics that "(1) must have been released on a recording for the first time, or (2) achieved prominence for the first time, during the current eligibility year.

Technically, Taylor Swift's "All Too Well (10 Minute Version)" could still be eligible for a nomination in the coveted GRAMMY category because of its new verse and lyrics.

Based on The Academy's decision on "Red (TV)," on which the song is included - the track, by extension, qualifies as a new recording.

Since the track qualifies as a new recording (because of Red TV eligibility), it has also "achieved prominence for the first time" as it was released in the current eligibility period.

As of this writing, The Recording Academy has not yet officially ruled out the track's eligibility. But should the song be uneligible, the ruling would also take effect on the album's other songs.

"Red (Taylor's Version)" was released on Nov. 12, 2021, well within the Academy's Oct. 1, 2021 - Sept. 30, 2022.

The album, with "All Too Well (10 Minute Version), has broken Billboard records for simultaneously debuting atop the Hot 100 and 200 Albums chart.
