The Red Hot Chili Peppers is returning to the VMAs stage to accept the Global Icon Award, a prestigious recognition that is long overdue for the iconic rock band.
Taking place on August 28 at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards is slated to be one of the biggest nights in music this year.

Composed of Anthony Kiedis, Flea, Chad Smith, and John Frusciante, the Red Hot Chili Peppers have established themselves to be one of the most successful rock bands worldwide.(via Variety)
On August 28, the iconic band is set to receive the Global Icon Award from the MTV Video Music Awards.

Per the network, the Global Icon Award is given to a band/artist whose unparalleled career and continued impact and influence have maintained a unique level of global success in music and beyond.
More so, the VMAs will honor the global icon who has left an indelible mark on the musical landscape and continues to influence, inspire and evolve.
The Red Hot Chili Peppers will be joining other Hall of Famers who had already received the coveted award - these include the Foo Fighters, Green Day, U2, Whitney Houston, Eminem, and even Queen, among many others.

Aside from accepting the award, the band shall also be performing onstage - marking their return to the show since 2000. At the time, they performed "Californication" shortly before they accepted the Video Vanguard Award.
On their debut on the MTV stage in 1992, they performed a rendition of their classic hit "Give it Away" and "Warped" in 1995 for their second performance.
As of this writing, the Red Hot Chili Peppers have yet to announce what song they will be performing on the Prudential Center stage.
A music video for "Tippa My Tongue" has already made its way to the band's YouTube channel today, while their highly anticipated album, "Return of the Dram Canteen," is set for worldwide release on October 14 via Warner Records.
Meanwhile, Nicki Minaj will be receiving another prestigious award that MTV will be giving out - the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award. She will also host alongside LL Cool J and Jack Harlow.
