Noah Cyrus teamed up with Ben Gibbard for her new single "Every Beginning Ends," released on Aug 26. The emotional ballad, a duet between Cyrus and Gibbard, follows a couple who has fallen out of love with each other.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Cyrus revealed that she was nervous to collaborate with the Death Cab For Cutie frontman.

"I've always been such a huge fan, so it was pretty daunting to get in the room with him, but once we got to work it all came very natural," she said.

"Every Beginning Ends" ends with the devastating lyrics: you have to wake up every morning and choose to love someone / but I'm finding that harder the more that I'm falling out of love with you / That I'm falling out of love with you."

Dissecting The Song

Aside from both being in the music industry, Cyrus and Gibbard's parents both separated and their failed relationships, which inspired the song.

Gibbard shared that his father told him, "You have to wake up and choose to love someone every day."

"[...] It sparked this conversational song about the twilight of a relationship and the reluctance to admit that something has run its course. I relate to that in many ways, not only with me but also just with my parents' relationship," Cyrus said. "Writing about that gave me more understanding.

Cyrus' parents, Billy Ray and Tish called it quits in April after being together for 28 years after the latter filed for divorce, citing "irreconcilable differences."
