This year has seen music from both artists that topped several charts across the globe, however, despite their massive success, the Toronto natives did not submit their music to the Recording Academy.

Drake's "Honestly, Nevermind," and The Weeknd's "Dawn FM" and other singles were noticeably not in the list of nominations that went public today, which raised a couple of eyebrows.

According to reports, Drake has long since expressed his frustrations with the Recording Academy as well as the Grammy Awards, and to make a point, he skipped out on the annual award show in 2017.

As for The Weeknd, the singer recently joined Drake in boycotting the award show in 2021 after not receiving any nominations for "After Hours" or any of its singles.

In 2017, Drake skipped out on the Grammy Awards despite being nominated for eight awards. According to reports, he found the awards lacking in terms of relevance and representation "when it comes to young singers."

In addition to that, he also criticized the Recording Academy for nominating "Hotline Bling" under rap categories, insisting that it was a pop song.

Last year, he also snubbed the Grammys by withdrawing "Certified Lover Boy" and "Way 2 Sexy" which were nominated for Best Rap Album and Best Rap Performance, respectively.

Drake has four Grammy Awards as of this writing. He won Best Rap Album for "Take Care" in 2013, Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song for "Hotline Bling" in 2017, and Best Rap Song for "God's Plan" in 2019.

On the other hand, The Weeknd began snubbing the Grammys last year. "After Hours" is considered one of the most successful albums following its release, yet despite its massive success it failed to get nominated for any category which frustrated and infuriated The Weeknd, who decided that he will no longer submit any of his future works to the Recording Academy.

"I will no longer allow my label to submit my music to the Grammys," said the Canadian singer.

While the two have indefinitely bowed out of receiving any Grammy Awards for their solo work, they have been honored as collaborators and contributors.

In the 2022 Grammy Awards, The Weeknd won an award for Best Melodic Rap Performance for Kanye West's "Hurricane," which he contributed to.

As of this writing, The Weeknd has won four Grammy Awards, including Best Urban Contemporary Album for "Beauty Behind the Madness" and "Starboy" in 2016 and 2018, respectively, Best R&B Performance for "Earned It" in 2016, and his win with West in 2022.
