"Normal People" star Paul Mescal sort of just proclaimed to the world that he is engaged with Phoebe Bridgers as he was interviewed about his new film "Aftersun."

Just as how they work with their relationship, Mescal and Bridgers stayed lowkey with their engagement announcement. There were no lengthy social media posts or anything, the news came about following his interview with The Guardian, which almost reported on the pair's engagement like it was an afterthought.

Meet-Cute

After trying out social media a couple of times, Mescal decided that it was not for him. However, before he completely wrote off social media, he managed to snag himself a girlfriend-Bridgers.

After finding out that the pair are now engaged, fans dug up a hilarious interaction between the actor and musician.

In 2020, Bridgers wrote, "Finished 'Normal People,' and now I'm sad and horny. Oh, wait."

Mescal plays Connell in the TV mini-drama series. It follows the story of Connell and Marianne who live in the same small town in Ireland, but their differences prove it hard for them to have a relationship.

This began the pair's meet-cute story, as Mescal reacted to Bridger's tweet with, "I'm officially dead."

"No, don't die. You're so talented aha," the musician replied.

Aside from this interaction, another fan brought up a 2019 tweet Mescal shared. It was a picture of his 2019 Spotify wrapped, which showed that his top artist for that year was none other than his now-fiancee.

Engagement

According to reports, the two made their relationship red carpet-official at the 2021 LACMA Art + Film gala back in November 2021, shortly following making their relationship Instagram-official, as well.

Prior to cementing their relationship on Instagram, Bridgers followed the actor, sharing that she thought he was a "cute boy."

When he followed her back she said, "I got a little pitter-patter in my heart when I saw."

And while engagement rumors have been swirling around for quite some time now, neither has confirmed nor denied anything until now.

"Need the romance book and movie based on this," a fan wrote, referencing to Mescal and Bridgers' relationship story.
