Fans were introduced to a slow and mellow song for Kimbra's new era with the single "save me" released a few weeks ago, but fans were shocked as they saw a completely different side of the New Zealand artist in her latest track, "Replay!"

The Grammy Award-winning singer is set to release her upcoming album "A Reckoning" on January 27, the follow-up to her successful 2018 record, "Primal Heart."

Speaking to Paper Magazine, the "Somebody That I Used To Know" songstress said her latest single explores the themes of anger, conflict, chaos, violence, heartbreak, sex, protest, and self-assertion as her upcoming album revolves around the theme of facing your true self.

Fans immediately bombarded the comment section of her music video, with one user applauding the singer for her "artistic growth" through the years.

"Seriously, the artistic growth of Kimbra is insane. To go from songs like Settle Down, 90s Music, Everybody Knows and now Replay is just crazy," one wrote.

Another fan noted that they have been following the musician for years, writing, "The amount of growth she has gone through has influenced all the art I create. This song, the production, the visuals, etc. she is undefeated!"

Elsewhere in the interview, the "Nobody But You" songstress opened up about her experience while filming the music video, saying it feels "very liberating" as the visuals look physically and emotionally intense.

Speaking about the deeper meaning of her latest song, Kimbra agreed with the outlet's interviewer that "Replay!" has a "loose commentary on mental health" and explores love and relationships at the same time.

"The larger message of 'Replay' is, 'Lean into your fear, face the loop to break the loop,'" she added.

Kimbra's 'A Reckoning' Out This January

It's been four years since the last time Kimbra released something and she described how she evolved since 2018, saying she had to question if it was relevant or appropriate to continue "making it light of all that was changing in the world."

Her answer was a definitive yes because it felt right for her to do something through her music.

Kimbra rose to fame and gained popularity after being featured on Gotye's smash 2011 hit "Somebody That I Used To Know," which won the Record Of The Year and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance Awards at the 2013 Grammy Awards.

The New Zealand indie pop artist has several albums under her belt which include 2011's "Vows," "The Golden Echo" in 2014, and "Primal Heart" in 2018.
