Freddie Mercury's greatest love, Mary Austin, recollected the "Queen" frontman's final days.

On this day in 1991, Mercury died at the age of 45 at his Kensington home, in Garden Lodge. The singer died of bronchopneumonia which was formed due to AIDS-related complications. He passed away a day after he finally revealed to the world that he was suffering from the late stage of HIV infection.

In his final days, only his close friends and family members were allowed to visit him and see him until he took his last breath. One of them was Austin, whom he always called the "love of my life."

In an article shared by Express UK, it revealed how Mercury wanted to spend his last days with Austin. It divulged how he loved her so much that he entrusted her with his ashes.

"During those times, I did really feel such love for him. They were the moments I remembered every time I looked at his bed. I would sit every day next to the bed for six hours, whether he was awake or not. He would suddenly wake up and smile and say, 'Oh, it's you, old faithful,'" he said.

Austin visited him every day along with the "Bohemian Rhapsody" hitmaker's close friend, Dave Clarke.

She was so heartbroken that she wished something had happened the other way. Instead of Austin missing Mercury, she hoped she died first so Mercury would do the missing instead.

Although they never got together legally, Austin felt like they got married when Mercury died. Although the Queen's frontman had already passed away, he also revealed that - to him - he and Austin were married in a unique way only the two of them knew.

Freddie Mercury Spent the Rest of His Life With Jim Hutton

While Austin became his greatest love, Mercury spent his last days with his live-in partner, Jim Hutton. The couple had wedding bands although they never got married.

The musician met him when Hutton failed to recognize him when he was working as a hairdresser. However, it was indicated in the 2018 film "Bohemian Rhapsody" that they first met at a London club in 1985.

At that time, Hutton was still dating someone. They waited for 18 months before meeting again and giving their spark a chance.

They began dating from there, and Hutton moved into the singer's London home.
