The Specials' lead singer, Terry Hall, has passed away at the age of 63 years old.

News of Terry Hall's death was shared on social media hours after his official death.

"It is with great sadness that we announce the passing, following a brief illness, of Terry, our beautiful friend, brother and one of the most brilliant singers, songwriters and lyricists this country has ever produced," a tweet from The Special reads.

According to The New York Post, Terry Hall's cause of death remains a mystery up until now. However, Terry Hall's cause of death is attributed to an "unspecified brief illness."

"Terry was a wonderful husband and father and one of the kindest, funniest, and most genuine of souls. His music and his performances encapsulated the very essence of life... the joy, the pain, the humour, the fight for justice, but mostly the love," the band continued to say.

Aside from The Specials, Terry Hall was also a lead singer of various rock, new wave, and ska bands in England.

He was the vocalist of Fun Boy Three, the Colourfield, Terry, Blair & Anouchka, and Vegas after the initial era of The Specials.

"He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him and leaves behind the gift of his remarkable music and profound humanity. Terry often left the stage at the end of The Specials' life-affirming shows with three words... 'Love Love Love'" the band tweeted.

According to The Guardian, Hall joined The Specials in 1977. Among the other hits that Hall helped popularize are "Gangsters," "Ghost Town," and "Free Nelson Mandela," among many others.

However, the band broke up in 1981, but he eventually went on to star in different bands with Lynval Golding and Neville Staple in Fun Boy Thre and The Colourfield.

The Specials reunited from 1993 to 1998, but without Hall in the mix. Later on, he rejoined the band's 30th-anniversary tour in 2009.

Tributes for Terry Hall have poured on social media. Among the first to pay tributes were English singer and activist Billy Bragg.

"The Specials were a celebration of how British culture was envigorated by Caribbean immigration but the onstage demenour of their lead singer was a reminder that they were in the serious business of challenging our perception of who we were in the late 1970s. RIP Terry Hall," he said in a statement.

Terry Hall was survived by his wife, Lindy Heymann. Terry had one son and two older sons with his ex-wife, Jeanette Hall.
