Sara Bareilles and Joe Tippett welcome the new year with some very exciting news: they are now engaged after dating for eight years!

The singer-songwriter showed off her new shiny engagement ring in an Instagram post: "Yes to marrying this man. "It's an easy, earned, relaxed yes. [Joe Tippett], you are exactly who I want.

"The more I know you the more I know I love you...and you have introduced me to parts of myself I was afraid to love," she wrote.

The picture shows the newly engaged couple staring deeply into each others' eyes with a grin on their faces.

"And now I love me more because of you. So really this is all about me. Just kidding. What a gift you are. Let the games begin. Onward into absolutely everything with you."

According to reports, Bareilles and Tippet first met when they starred onstage together for the musical "Waitress" as Jenna and Earl in 2015.

"Waitress" is based on the 2007 indie film of the same name. Following the success of the movie, it was adapted into a musical that ran on Broadway and West End.

It follows the protagonist, a waitress named Jenna who unexpectedly gets pregnant by her doctor, with whom she has an affair. She joins a pie-baking contest in an attempt to win the grand prize and solve all her problems.

After their meeting, Bareilles and Tippett formed a friendship, which became the foundation of their strong years-long relationship.

In several interviews, the "Love Song" singer opened up about how her now-fiance has helped her conquer her insecurities.

"I was struggling with insecurities about being able to meet the challenge of it and I felt really out of my depth," she told talk show host, Jimmy Fallon.

"And he's like, 'If Tina Fey believes that you can do this, why don't you just trust her? If you can't find it in yourself, just trust that one of your heroes is not going to put you in a position to fail.' And that was really good advice."

Bareilles and Tippett mostly kept to themselves throughout their relationship, although they did show fans and netizens glimpses into their lives as a couple.

Their Instagram accounts are dotted with pictures together and of each other, paired with long captions that express just how in love they are.

Tippett referred to Bareilles as the "sunshine in [his] eyes, the star at the center of [his] solar system, [his] lighthouse in a storm, and the laugh that melts away his [cynicism]" among other things.
