U2 has been a part of many people's lives through the decades and it appears that they will be bringing major nostalgia vibes this year as they re-recorded and re-imagined 40 of their classic hits compiled into one album; when is it coming out?

According to Rolling Stone, the Irish rock band announced their new record titled "Songs of Surrender," a music project consisting of 40 songs from their decades-long music catalog that has been re-recorded recently.

The album is meant to complement Bono's memoir titled "Surrender: 40 Songs, One Story." Fans will get a chance to purchase and stream the record starting on March 17.

Taking to their official YouTube channel, the group shared a 60-second trailer that showed a moving collage featuring their photographs through the years. The background song is the new rendition of the track,  "Beautiful Day."

As of this writing, the band has not shared the official tracklist of the upcoming album, but the outlet suggested it's safe to assume that it would be the 40 songs Bono used as titles of the chapters of his memoir.

More Details About U2's 'Songs of Surrender'

U2 gave fans a glimpse of what to expect from their new album by sending handwritten letters to lucky supporters.

In one letter, signed by the Edge, shared on social media, the musician explained that most of their work was written and recorded back when they were young.

"Those songs mean something quite different to us now. Some have grown with us. Some we have outgrown, but we have not lost sight of what propelled us to write those songs in the first place," he wrote.

The Irish musician, whose real name is David Howell Evans, then noted that the project initially began as an experiment, but they later became obsessed with it because the band has so many songs that "yielded to a new interpretation."

On the other hand, Bono seemingly dropped a hint about the project at the end of his book, revealing that the re-recorded sessions of their upcoming record took place during the lockdown.

The songs, which became titles of his book's chapters, gave him a chance to live inside those songs as he writes his memoir.

Larry Mullen's Shocking Announcement

The recent album announcement comes after drummer, Larry Mullen made rounds online after seemingly hinting his plans to leave U2.

In an interview with the Washington Post, the musician said he would not be a part of the group's 2023 tour amid their plans because he needs more surgery if he wanted to continue playing.

"You only do this if you're having the best time. And not everyone is going to make it because the price is so high," he said.
