Gunna has been one of the most controversial rappers in the past year as he shocked everyone after turning himself in last May 2022.

The rapper was involved in a grand jury indictment, alleging them of conspiring to violate the RICO act of Georgia, among many other felony charges.

He, along with Young Thug, and 26 other associates of the YSL Records was arrested following the indictment. Aside from the hefty charges, Gunna faced legal headaches as he was denied bond release thrice after the presiding judge considers him holding a "commanding position" on the alleged record label which is also allegedly running as a criminal gang in Atlanta.

For the judge, Gunna and Young Thug hold a high position among the group their temporary freedom could tamper with witnesses and probably endanger their lives.

However, last December 2022, Gunna pleaded guilty to the charges through an Alford plea or a best-interest plea deal. He has pleaded guilty to the charges in exchange for a commuted sentence while maintaining innocence on the charges thrown at him.

But his freedom was egged on by members of the community, seeing his guilty plea as an act of snitching on his brothers like Young Thug who is still in prison for the same charges.

"While I have agreed to always be truthful, I want to make it perfectly clear that I have NOT made any statements, have NOT been interviewed, have NOT cooperated, have NOT agreed to testify or be a witness for or against any party in the case and have absolutely NO intention of being involved in the trial process in any way," Gunna said in a statement following his release.

He along with a few others who were embroiled in the indictment has taken plea deals in exchange for freedom and commuted sentences.

Young Thug, on the other hand, remains in jail, waiting for his upcoming trial this January 2023.

Over to Instagram, Gunna posted his first official photo weeks after his release. Dressed in all-black trousers and sleeves, the "Pushin P" rapper looked significantly thinner than his photos before entering jail in May 2023.

"iggas acting like they switching to a side But it's only one side. #YslTheLabel #FreeThug&Yak GUNNA BACC!!!!!" he posted.
