Zayn Malik and Selena Gomez sparked collaboration rumors after the former One Direction member's recent move.

Hope for a collaboration between Malik and Gomez intensified Wednesday after the former followed the female singer on Instagram. Pop Base's official Twitter page shared a screenshot of the development, showing the "Pillow Talk" hitmaker now following 18 people including Gomez.

Some suggested a potential relationship between the singers since Malik's mother also hit the follow button on Gomez's account. Meanwhile, most fans talked about their possible music together.

One fan offered a theory, writing, "Imagine if my theory is correct and dj snake will give us a selena gomez x zayn malik collab."

The collaboration, however, should be taken with a grain of salt as no formal announcement has been released yet.

But fans still have their hopes up as both artists expressed their desire to create new music soon.

Zayn Malik, Selena Gomez Want To Make New Music

Amid the collaboration rumors, the musicians' past statements regarding music projects reemerged.

In December 2022, the "Lose You To Love Me" singer revealed during her appearance on "The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon" that she plans to have some fun with her songs and say goodbye to writing sad-girl songs for now.

She added that people would like it once they hear it, "hopefully," this 2023.

Meanwhile, Malik's artist pages revealed that the singer is working on his fourth studio album, which will serve as his first project since dropping "Nobody Is Listening" in 2021.

Aside from a possible collaboration, eagle-eyed fans were quick to assume that Malik just showed support for Gomez amid Hailey Bieber's drama. Malik's ex, Gigi, and her sister Bella, are friends with Justin Bieber's wife, who recently suffered condemnation for allegedly bullying Gomez.

It all started when the singer showed her love for Bella before adding a post in which she talked about "accidentally" laminating her eyebrows too much.

Kylie Jenner, Hailey's friend, seemingly threw shade by sharing a selfie with the text "this was an accident???" on top of her eyebrows. She added a post featuring a screenshot of her FaceTime call with Hailey, and the two had their eyebrows zoomed in on their camera.

Gomez recently reacted to a video of Hailey making a gagging motion when Taylor Swift's name was mentioned in "Drop the Mic." In response to the fan-uploaded clip, she wrote, "So sorry, my best friend is and continues to be one of the best in the game."
