During their prime years, Metallica toured non-stop as the adrenaline continuously flowed into their bodies whenever they play for thousands of fans. However, since most of the members of the group are aging, supporters should expect the band to slow down in future shows; are they going to retire anytime soon?

Drummer Lars Ulrich recently spoke to Revolver Mag and shared his thoughts about Metallica's future when it comes to touring, saying retirement is not something they've talked about, but he spends his energy to stay healthy most of the time.

The musician admitted that he's getting older and he spends a lot of time on his daily workouts. This is also the case for his bandmates as they are all about "trying to stay healthy."

Is Metallica Retiring Soon?

Later in the conversation, the drummer said there will be a point in the future where the band could possibly "not going to function anymore" where they can't play tracks like "Master of Puppets" or "Battery."

"I know there's some people in the comments section that think that point has already come - and I appreciate that. But the only thing I can say is that it hasn't happened yet, knock on wood. Hopefully it won't happen for a while," he assured fans. (via Rock 108)

Some older artists like Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen, and the Rolling Stones were brought up in the conversation as they are some of the musicians who are still touring despite being in their 70s and 80s.

However, Ulrich noted that Metallica is completely different from them as they play fast and heavy tracks like "Battery."

Concluding his sentiments over the topic, it appears Metallica won't be retiring anytime soon as he hopes to tour for another decade as long as they remain healthy.

"I would say if we stay healthy, hopefully we've got another decade. I mean, the second I'm done with you, I'm getting on the Peloton," he said.

How Old Are Metallica Members?

Frontman James Hetfield was born in 1963, he's currently 59 years old and will be celebrating his 60th birthday later this year.

Lars Ulrich is also as old as Hetfield as they were born in the same year.

On the other hand, lead guitarist Kirk Hammett was born in 1962, meaning he's 60 years old now, while Robert Trujillo is 58, making him the youngest member of the current lineup.
