Jah Shaka may look like an average man. He doesn't wear flashy jewelry, or fancy suits, or even live a lavish lifestyle.

None would be wiser when Shaka would walk by them-unless they listen to Jamaican reggae and dub sound.

In the world of Jamaican reggae and dub sound, Shaka is a pioneer-a respected and beloved figure.

He was born in Clarendon Parish in Jamaica, but he eventually ended up in South East London, where he eventually became popular and his career flourished.

Success and popularity did not come easy to Shaka. In 2014, during a Red Bull Music Academy lecture, he explained that it was music that tied him back to his home country.

"When people left Africa for the Caribbean, all they could bring with them was their music, their songs, and their memories from home. So, over the years, this is all that people had to keep them together," he said.

The music scene was vastly different from when he began, but he soldiered on. That's probably why he is considered a pioneer.

"In the 1950s and 1960s in London, there were house parties - 50, 60 people with only record players. It helped families know other families, which was important at that time because the people were so forced to be segregated."

Fame and Success

According to reports, Shaka's name is synonymous with cultural brilliance. He was able to make music that spanned decades and reached millions of people.

Several of his collaborators took to social media to mourn his death and pay tribute to him.
