Frank Ocean's highly-anticipated Coachella performance has been criticized by many of his fans given the delays and rather lackluster time they had during the festival.
Amid news and reports of disappointment from fans starting from removal of livestream privileges and the likes, an insider revealed that the original plan was apparently scrapped moments before the actual show started.
Frank Ocean Coachella Performance Boring?
A TMZ report revealed that Frank Ocean allegedly gave a "lackluster" performance, despite being the most-anticipated performance of the entire festival.
This is the first performance of the "Blonde" singer after many years, which meant that everyone's anticipation was sky-high. However, Ocean apparently did not delivered, leading to his fans being disappointed.
But what caused their disappointment? Turns out, he arrived at the concert an hour late to his original schedule, which tested the patience of many of his fans.
Aside from this, the dimly-lit stage disabled many to see the singer clearly onstage. Low-hanging fixtures blocked the view from the audience, who in effect, resorted to just watching him on the big screens on the adjacent side of the stage.
Frank Ocean's Coachella performance was described by festivalgoers as "lethargic" throughout his limited set. Some even reported that he could not sing at times as his pre-recorded vocals would take over as he could not even bring himself to lipsync.
Those who were avid fans of Frank Ocean might be a tinge more envious compared to those who just knew him from his popular ones. Based on his rather limited set, he performed less popular songs, opting out those more famous ones like "Thinking About You," TMZ reports.
The outlet described the show was "disorganized" with a lot of "downtime and gaps of awkward silence." Frank even wrapped up his performance with a rather anticlimactic one liner - saying that he has to end the show because its already a curfew.
However, a source close to Rolling Stone revealed the reason why the whole Frank Ocean Coachella performance seemed to disappoint many.
Frank Ocean Ankle Injury To Blame Why Coachella Performance A Snoozefest
According to a source close to Rolling Stone, everything was adjusted to at the last minute because the singer sustained an ankle injury during the on-site rehearsals a week before the festival took place.
Online insider Deuxmoi also received a tip saying that a hundred and fifty skaters were told to hold their horses as they pulled the plug on the grand performance, reported to even have a huge ice skating rink mounted on stage for Frank Ocean's Coachella performance.
Despite the rather lackluster performance, the same Rolling Stone source confirmed that the performance was actually 15 minutes more than the originally intended set. As many could see, Ocean was seen sitting throughout the performance, wearing slippers.
Pitchfork reported that Coachella was even fined over a hundred thousand dollars for getting past the curfew on all of the three days of the Coachella Weekend 1.
