After performing in front of the British Royal Family and a 20,000-strong crowd in Windsor Castle last weekend, Lionel Richie got social media buzzing because of all the wrong reasons.

Some fans, even longtime ones, were shocked to watch and hear him perform after perhaps a very long time. Many were confused, bewildered, and disappointed to hear his voice changed throughout the years.

Despite the flurry of backlash he received, the music icon seemed to be unfazed by the comments and decided to do the mature thing to do - ignore them.

Lionel Richie King Charles Coronation Concert Performance

Along with his fellow "American Idol" judge Katy Perry, Lionel Richie flew overseas to serenade the crowd at the Coronation Concert of King Charles III.

Last May 6, 2023, Richie performed at Windsor Castle in front of the crowd and the British Royal Family. He performed his hits, "All Night Long" and The Commodores' "The Easy."

Albeit being a year young than King Charles III, Richie performed as if he was back in his 40s during the Coronation Concert performance. However, fans seemed to think that his voice wasn't in his prime years already.

On social media, people expressed their disappointment and confusion about Richie's change in voice.

"Is someone disguised as Lionel Richie because that is not his voice! Sounds completely different," someone posted.

"As tribute acts go, he *looked* like Lionel Richie, but that voice wasn't very convincing... #CoronationConcert," another wrote.

"Bless him. He was an incredible songwriter and great vocalist. Sadly the voice has gone and he's become a Lionel Richie tribute act," a user shared.

"As a kid I was a massive fan of Lionel Richie. My first vinyl was "Dancing On The Ceiling" by the Motown legend. His velvety voice was his super power. Welllll...his performance at the Coronation Concert was horrendous. What happened? No tone, resonance or power and off pitch," someone commented.
