Paul Simon has been performing under Simon & Garfunkel for years now, but it appears that he will retire from live performances soon due to his health condition; what happened to the folk singer?

According to Rolling Stone, the 81-year-old artist spoke with the Times UK where he opened up about his hearing loss that occurred while he was writing his new album.

"Quite suddenly, I lost most of the hearing in my left ear, and nobody has an explanation for it so everything became more difficult," he said.

Paul Simon Not Performing at Live Shows Anymore?

Initially, the singer felt frustrated and annoyed by what happened to him and he thought his hearing would eventually come back after it repairs itself.

Unfortunately, his hearing loss continued leading him to question his ability to perform in front of a live audience.

Aside from his current condition, he also tested positive for COVID-19 in 2020 which left him frail. In addition, he's not that enthusiastic anymore when it comes to performing some of his old songs.

"The songs of mine that I don't want to sing live, I don't sing them. Sometimes there are songs that I like and then at a certain point in a tour, I'll say, 'What the f*** are you doing, Paul?'" (via Deadline)

The feeling of not singing some of the songs comes whenever he sings "You Can Call Me Al" and it led him to the point that he thought of getting off the road and going home.

Elsewhere in the conversation, the musician opened up about the deaths of his good pals Jeff Becka and Gordon Lightfoot, saying, "My generation's time is up."

"Seven Psalms" contains eight new songs and is now available for streaming on major music platforms like Spotify and Apple Music.
