The striking gold outfit of Sir Elton John had the Glastonbury revelers in awe as he began to perform some of his iconic hits.

However, they were left flabbergasted when the 76-year-old read out the lyrics while singing - something never seen before from him.

When some fans saw the award-winning singer-composer using an autocue during his performance, they were taken aback.

One fan took to Twitter and asked in disbelief, "Why's Elton John reading the words of an autocue for a song he must have sung a million times?"

In response to the criticism of Elton John, one passionate fan wrote: "Cause he's 76 and still performing an amazing two hour set at Colombo!"

Appreciation for the living legend was expressed by another fan who stated: "Not Elton John reading his own lyrics like he's doing karaoke - bloody love this man!"

"With the introduction of so many auto queues, Bruce Springsteen has been ahead of the game for a long time," someone posted.

"And it's impressive how well he can still read his own lyrics at 77! Kudos to him for being so amazing," another added.

The golden-suited Rocket Man was met with immense anticipation as he took to the stage at one of Glastonbury's most jam-packed sets.

Stunned by the experience, Elton John joyfully proclaimed: "I never thought I'd actually do this."

His opening number was "Pinball Wizard," marking the beginning of an extraordinary evening that would be remembered for years.

The audience cheered as he delivered a passionate performance of "The Bitch Is Back," followed by beloved "Bennie And The Jets."
