As the last week marked the conclusion of Elton John's performance at Glastonbury 2023, special guest Stephen Sanchez divulged that the legendary singer-songwriter altered his setlist at the last second.

On Sunday (June 25), a remarkable duet took place on Glastonbury's Pyramid Stage when the 20-year old musician joined "Rocketman" for their performance of "Until I Found You."

Elton John's Farewell Tour culminated in a memorable finale at his record-breaking Glastonbury set, with four special guests joining him for the show.

Having spanned over five years and 350 live performances, it marked the end of an incredible journey.

A week has passed since the historic performance of Stephen and Elton, and recently the former disclosed that their plan was for the latter to sing his 1983 chart-topping classic "I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues."

However, at the last minute, this plan was changed by the legendary pianist.

Speaking to Rolling Stone UK, Stephen said, "We'd spent weeks [preparing for] that, and then he came to see me and the boys at The Troubadour."

"The week after, he just rang me and said, 'Stephen, I've had a thought. I don't want you to sing one of my songs. I think it would be far better if you sang your song and we gave you this big moment for you and your career."

He went on to gush, "I was just blown away by that selflessness and his desire to, you know, expose new artists and new music."

Elton John accompanied by guests performed stellar tracks for the audience at his Glastonbury set, which also served as his final UK performance.

During Stephen's interview, he discussed how incredible it was to see the "Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word" crooner putting so much effort into showcasing up-and-coming artists.

Furthermore, he conveyed his exhilaration at being able to play for such an immense amount of people.

Praising the endeavor, Stephen reflected on his latest accomplishment. "It's been a tremendous honor for me to be a part of this," he said. "Not only will it help move my career in the right direction, but I know that it will also shine as his shining moment - being one of his last performances here in the UK."

Stephen went on to say that performing on the Pyramid Stage is an incredibly powerful moment. He gushed how it was like being wrapped up in a blanket of sound that echoes through the soul.

He even mentioned how having so many people around, all with their own stories and memories creates a tangible energy that is hard to describe.

Despite the performance being one week old already, Stephen confessed that even today, the feeling of standing there lingers with him, as he is still in awe of the experience.
