What was supposed to be a heartfelt and earnest comment about Kim Petras became an argument on Twitter.

The drama surrounding Charli XCX and Cynthia Lee Fontaine began when a fan asked the "Speed Drive" singer what her thoughts were on "Feed the Beast" by Petras.

Charli admitted that she has not listened to the album yet, but read a review from Pitchfork. She reflected on her experience working with Petras before.

"I love Kim and I think she's exceptionally talented," she wrote on an Instagram Story. "I've seen her work. I've seen her write. I've seen her natural instinct. It's very good. I think she's in an interesting spot as an artist [right now].

"The way I see it is that she's in a phase where commercial success is more important than wholeheartedly following her artistic instinct (perhaps?)."

She also explained how she can relate to the "Unholy" singer because she, too, has been in Petras' shoes.

"I think it's a crucial phase that some of us need to experience to further access our own core and learn the lesson that our own voices are the most powerful and convicted in the room, despite all the additional opinions that are also always circling around."

Cynthia Lee Fontaine 'Cringes' at Charli XCX

According to reports, the issue began when the "RuPaul's Drag Race" star took to Twitter to share their thoughts on Charli's lack of thoughts regarding Petras' album.

"So haven't heart it yet, and she decided to make a comment base on someone's review? Cringe," Fontaine wrote.

Charli was undeterred by Fontaine's tweet, and responded: "No. I chose to comment not on another person's review but on my experience of Kim as an artist whom I've collaborated with many times.

"Artists are so much more than singular albums. Great artists are so much more than singular albums. Great artists generate culture and conversation that transcends music.

"I am giving my thoughts on Kim's current position as an artist in 2023 through the [lens] of my own personal experiences. Don't try with your f**k s**t with me."

Charli XCX, Cynthie Lee Fontaine Cat Fight

The "Lock It" singer's response might have hit a nerve because Fontaine was quick to bite back: "Don't you dare trying to teach me how artistry work. I'm aware how it works.

"But the music [business] and culture and interaction derives not just only on comments between colleagues , but also your own criteria, point of view and personal expertise . Do better ignorant!"

As of this writing, Charli is yet to reply to Fontaine, but fans are having a field day with the argument.

"Oh, don't ever come for Queen Charli, who even is that?" a fan wrote.

"It's just Charli's opinion, wtf."
