This April marked the 20th anniversary of Nas' debut album Illmatic. Though the album initially failed to make huge sales numbers, its impact on hip-hop and culture is undeniable, and now a trailer for a documentary based on the album and Nas' rise to fame, Nas: Time Is Illmatic has received a trailer.

Touting the documentary as an ode to an American classic, the 100-second trailer shows Nas' rise to hip-hop icon status and depicts the making of what would become his signature piece of work.

Scenes of Nas' family and hometown of Queensbridge, New York, are shown and narrated by the emcee himself. "My parents are good people, hard workers. Pop had been all over the world through his music," he says. "We had a beautiful home inside that neighborhood, but outside, gun shots going off every night."

Through interviews with Nas, Alicia Keys, Pharrell Williams and other major hip-hop players, the 74-minute documentary will show how the album was recorded, released and discuss its impact on the social world of hip-hop.
