In 2001, Los Angeles Times he was reported that the "Father of Funk" signed a bad deal that caused him to lose a few million and was forced to give up his own publishing rights. After relinquishing it, he reportedly filed for bankruptcy, which he later denied as he said the filing was fraudulent and that he never signed any document related to it.

He got so broke that in 2015, Blurt reported that he started selling paintings and offering fans online music and art lessons for a cheap price.

Where Is George Clinton Now?

Despite his past legal issues, the record producer remains active in the industry as he gets back up on his feet.

Most recently, he has been tapped to join the 40th anniversary of the African World Festival by the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History which will run from Friday through Sunday this weekend. He will appear as part of live performers at the Ford Main Stage.

"It's gonna be a lot of good music for everybody," Clinton told the Detroit Free Press. "Some fresh funk, some old funk; a lot of new stuff people aren't used to hearing, and stuff some might be too young to remember."
