The 1975 protested against Malaysia's anti-LGBTQIA+ laws by kissing each other onstage-safe to say, they might be banned from Malaysia for the rest of their lives.
According to reports, the band performed at the Good Vibes Festival in Kuala Lumpur, the capital city of Malaysia, when Matty Healy went on a tirade against the Malaysian government's stance on LGBTQIA+ rights.
"I made a mistake," the frontman said. "When we were booking shows, I wasn't looking into it. I don't see the fucking point... of inviting the 1975 to a country and then telling us who we can have sex with.
"I'm sorry if that offends you, and you're religious... but your government is a bunch of f**king r--. I don't care anymore. If you push, I'm gonna push back. I'm not in the f**king mood."
The 1975 Pushes Back Against Anti-LGBTQIA+ Laws
Healy went on to explain how The 1975 almost dropped out of the festival due to the country's anti-LGBTQIA+ laws, but that it would "not fair" for the fans, who are "not representative of [their] government."
"Because you are young people, and I'm sure a lot of you are gay and progressive and cool. So, I pulled the show yesterday, I pulled the show yesterday.
"We said, 'You know what? We can't let the kids down because they're not the government... If you want to invite me here to do a show, you can f**k off. I'll take your money, you can ban me, but I've done this before, and it doesn't feel good," he continued.
To make a point, The 1975's bassist Ross MacDonald went over to Healy and they made out onstage.
The band then ended their set half an hour early and bid their fans farewell. Healy jokingly said before he left the stage, "Alright, we just got banned from Kuala Lumpur, see you later!"

The 1975 Advocates for LGBTQIA+ Rights
According to reports, the band as well as Healy have always supported the LGBTQIA+ community, and it is not the first time they have protested against a country's anti-LGBTQIA+ laws. Healy kissed a male fan during his concert in Dubai in 2019.
Despite the act possibly affecting the band's chances of going back to these countries for future shows, they are unfazed and unbothered by the possibility of being banned.
