Arctic Monkeys in Mercury Prize Awards

Notably, Arctic Monkeys was shortlisted again for the fifth time. Arctic Monkeys is now tied with Radiohead for the most nominations that an act has received since 1992. Unlike Radiohead, they have already won in 2006. They were nominated a year after, in 2013, 2018, and now, 2023.

Speaking to the publication about their album, "The Car," Alex Turner had this to say:

"I think there is still a bit of the 'R U Mine?' band on this record. There is that component, it just brings itself in and out of focus in a more dynamic way and a more extreme way... It completely disappears in some areas. But it sort of bubbles up from under the surface on occasion throughout the 40 minutes."

The album debuted at No. 2 on the UK Albums chart, No. 6 on the Billboard 200 chart, and No. 1 on the Billboard Top Alternative and Top Rock Albums charts.
