This is the third year of the festival, but the first time that Los Angeles is in the mix. Jay announced the new location in April.

"I love that the festival will be in the middle of the city. Not too far away. No disrespect to any other festival," Hova said.

But the L.A. portion has come under fire very recently, with allegations that mayor Eric Garcetti circumvented city laws to make the event happen in less than a year.

Then, there's the conflict of interest with Live Nation CEO Michael Rapino—who has a national reputation as a major Democrat booster—and Live Nation city lobbyist Josh Perttula, who used to serve as an adviser to Garcetti's transition team.

Through all this, Garcetti has remained a staunch supporter of the event.

"We're at the crossroads of the world here in L.A.," he told the media on Thursday. "What's important is that Los Angeles figure out a way to get to 'Yes.' There's a million ways to say no, there will always be a million things to consider - that's not a reason to not celebrate."
