Bruno Mars is undoubtedly one of the biggest musicians of all time having millions of records sold through the years as well as an impressive net worth and he credits all of his success to one particular skill that isn't related to music; find out below what he has to say.

The "Gorilla" hitmaker recently spoke with CNBC "Make It" to reveal his secret to success, and surprisingly, it wasn't any musical skill that he possesses, but rather, trusting his instincts as well as being self-disciplined.

"Whatever you're doing just has to be honest - that's really become the most important thing for me in my career," he said.

The musician, who has 12 Grammy Awards under his belt so far, explained that whenever he writes a new song, he has to make sure that he's exerting his best efforts and digging deep into his soul.

"I didn't take any shortcuts. I have to really believe in what I'm doing for it to work," he added.

As easy as it sounds, trusting his guts or intuitions wasn't easy for the 37-year-old award-winning singer as he told the outlet that "it's gotten harder" through the years.

However, being clear about the path that he wanted to take and being committed to the projects that he does is one major factor why he became successful.
