Aerosmith almost had a different frontman after a dispute with Steven Tyler years ago.

In 2009, the Aerosmith frontman expressed his desire to pursue a solo career, leading Joe Perry to think of potential collaborators. A decade after the potential gig arose, the musician who almost fronted the rock band shared the shocking revelation in a new interview.

Aerosmith Almost Had a Different Frontman After Steven Tyler

In an episode of The Dave Rickards Podcast, Chris Daughtry revealed he was considered to become a vocalist of Aerosmith, though it never happened as Tyler did not leave the band after going through a bumpy road.

"I get this random call from Joe Perry," he said. "Joe Perry and Steven were apparently at odds with each other. It was all in the news; this isn't private information. I think this was right when Steven Tyler was going on American Idol and they weren't touring together. I think it was like a public breakup sort of thing."

At that time, Daughtry was enjoying the spotlight because of his appearance on "American Idol" and the release of his first album with his band since 2009's "Leave This Town."

According to the musician, Perry immediately went into the reason for calling him and opened up about their desire to work and tour with him. The lead guitarist also publicly announced Tyler's departure from the band, telling Las Vegas Sun (via The Guardian) that his bandmate quit "as far as I can tell."

Why Chris Daughtry Turned Down the Offer

Daughtry revealed he was initially speechless after hearing the offer as he reportedly does not consider himself a singer who could do things Tyler can. He told the host that the frontman is irreplaceable in his mind.

In addition, Tyler was still alive, so he could not find a reason to do it.

Although it was a terrifying concept for him, he called the experience a story he would always hold near and dear for the rest of his life.

Daughtry went on to release studio albums after the offer. This week, he dropped his single "Artificial" while on tour with Ayron Jones as his supporting artist.

Meanwhile, Aerosmith has not released anything since 2012, "Music From Another Dimension!" which, for Aerosmith and fans, was a commercial disappointment.
