Steve Harwell, the former lead singer of Smash Mouth, has been placed in hospice care and said to only have days to live. Following that harrowing report, he passed shortly.

His manager Robert Hayes made the announcement of his passing to Rolling Stone, stating that Harwell "passed peacefully and comfortably" with his loved ones by his side. According to Harwell, "Steve's iconic voice is one of the most recognisable voices from his generation."

He added, "He loved the fans and loved to perform ... Steve lived a 100 percent full-throttle life. Burning brightly across the universe before burning out."

Although the artist's cause of death was not disclosed by Hayes, he already revealed arlier this week that the singer had been experiencing liver failure.

Following his 2013 diagnoses of acute Wernicke encephalopathy, a neurological ailment affecting speech and memory, and cardiomyopathy, a cardiac disease, Harwell had experienced a number of additional health problems. He was an alcoholic as well.

All the Health Issues He Faced

This is the saddest day of his and Smash Mouth's fans. While his health issues were not a secret in the past years, his death is still a shock to many.

This tragedy stems Harwell's prolonged battle with a number of health issues, which ultimately caused him to retire from music in 2021. Robert Hayes, the band's manager, revealed the tragic news on Sunday.

It was said at the time that Harwell, who has just about a week to live due to severe liver failure, wasreceiving care from his fiancée at a hospice.

In 2013, Harwell was diagnosed with Wernicke encephalopathy, a severe neurological disorder, and cardiomyopathy, a cardiac ailment characterized by the growth and weakening of the heart muscle.

Subsequently, in August 2016, he experienced a dramatic onstage collapse at a Smash Mouth performance in Urbana, Illinois, necessitating an ambulance ride to the hospital.

A year later, Smash Mouth's continued treatment for heart-related ailments forced them to postpone multiple of their shows.

Harwell's lucrative music career has allowed him to amass a net worth of $2.55 million.

He is most known for being the lead vocalist and co-founder of the well-known band Smash Mouth. He and bassist Paul De Lisle are the only remaining original members of the band, having been with it since the beginning.

According to reports, Steve Harwell put $600,000 into a Henderson, Nevada home back in 1999. Later, in 2009, he made the decision to sell this home, and the sale brought approximately $800,000. Once this deal was completed, he moved to Nashville, Tennessee.
