Queen's surviving active members, Brian May and Roger Taylor, announced the debut of the band's official tribute band.

Called Queen Extravaganza, the band will soon tour with May and Taylor alongside the musicians they personally handpicked. Queen never replaced Freddie Mercury after his death, though the duo has been performing under the band's banner with different lead singers, including Adam Lambert.

The announcement came after May expressed his heartbreak amid the auction of Mercury's belongings at Sotheby. More than 1,500 personal items of the late singer from his Garden Lodge home in Kensington, West London, entered the auction.

"Freddie's most intimate personal effects, and writings that were part of what we shared for so many years, will go under the hammer, to be knocked down to the highest bidder and dispersed forever," he said. "I can't look. To us, his closest friends and family, it's too sad."

Mercury's ex-lover, Mary Austin, decided to let go of the singer's most precious belongings decades after the singer died in 1991 due to pneumonia caused by AIDS-related complications.
