Selena Gomez has decided to temporarily leave social media in light of the world's ongoing issues with violence and terror.

On Monday, the 31-year-old "Lose You To Love Me" singer shared her thoughts on Instagram, expressing how the most recent news headlines had affected her. Consequently, she will take a break from digital platforms for a while.

The former Disney channel star said in an Instagram Story, "I've been taking a break from social media because my heart breaks to see all of the horror, hate, violence, and terror that's going on in the world. People being tortured and killed or any act of hate towards any one group is horrific."

"We need to protect ALL people, especially children, and stop the violence for good."

It appears that the current conflict between Israel and Hamas in the Middle East has taken a great toll, with sources saying thousands of people have perished since early October.

Unfortunately, the majority of those killed are Palestinians and Israelis.

In the three weeks since fighting escalated on October 7, an alarming number of 3,257 children have been reported killed, as recorded by Save the Children.

Selena's last Instagram post was on October 7 to announce unique partnership between Rare Beauty and Sephora.

All proceeds from her makeup line's sales would be donated to the Rare Impact Fund, which is devoted to increasing access to mental health support for young adults.

This announcement marked her last post on social media before taking a break from it.

This wasn't the first time Selena Gomez has decided to step away from her social media accounts. Back in February 2023, the "Wizards of Waverly Place" star took a brief hiatus, and now she is following through with her promise once again.

She also hopped on TikTok Live and announced that she was departing from social media momentarily after standing up for Taylor Swift about a video including Hailey Bieber.
