YouTube has developed another polarizing tool and platform that lets users create an Artificial Intelligence-produced song with a selected singer's voice to perform it.

Content creators can choose from a rather limited dictionary of A-list singers, but it is clearly enough to keep the ball rolling.

YouTube Dream Track Explained

YouTube has teamed up with Google's DeepMind artificial intelligence lab to develop YouTube Dream Track.

According to the press release, nine artists have agreed to collaborate with YouTube and Google on this Artificial Intelligence project - effectively lending their voices to the system.

Among these are Alternative Indie singer-songwriter Alec Benjamin, Charlie Puth, Sia, Papoose, rapper T-Pain, Troye Sivan, Charli XCX, Demi Lovato, and even EGOT winner John Legend.

Lovato expressed her enthusiasm for the project in a statement. (via Variety)

"The development of AI technology is rapidly changing the way we navigate the landscape, and I believe as artists we need to be a part of shaping what that future looks like. My career has been about pushing boundaries... and creating the most interesting music for my fans. I am open-minded and hopeful that this experiment with Google and YouTube will be a positive and enlightening experience," she said.

Puth on the other hand, said: "I'm extremely excited and inspired... YouTube has been a great partner in outlining their approach to AI and understands the need to work together to develop this technology responsibly, ensuring it will accelerate creativity instead of replacing it."

According to YouTube Head of Music Lyor Cohen and VP of Emerging Experiences and Community Products Toni Reid, the initial phase of YouTube Dream Track is designed to explore how Artificial intelligence is used to create "deeper connections between artists and creators" and their fans.

How Does YouTube Dream Track Work?

Making YouTube Dream Track work is simple. It is only available in the music feature of YouTube Shorts. Users can create a prompt to create a 30-second original song. After that, users can choose whichever singer they want to sing on the rather limited artist library that YouTube has.

As of this writing, it is not known yet when YouTube Dream Track will be released on the platform.
