According to the publication's press release, Taylor Swift is shortlisted for the 2023 Person of the Year issue.

The publication cited her record-breaking album release, streaming activity, and even her record-setting concert film in history. Her "The Eras Tour" is set to become the highest-grossing global tour, being the first in history to breach $1 billion in revenue.

Swift was deemed the 2017 Person of the Year, along with other "Silence Breakers" who spoke out during the Me Too Movement at the time.

Time Magazine Person of the Year 2023 Shortlist

Among the other people that Time Magazine has shortlisted for the Person of the Year 2023 issue were key people who made a mark this year.

Jerome Powell, the current Chairman of the Federal Reserve since 2018, has been managing the high inflation in the United States this year. With his expertise in the field, his work has undoubtedly impacted the state of the nation, including the state of every citizen's wallet.

Russian President Vladimir Putin was also shortlisted, but it seemed like it was for the wrong reasons. The Prime Minister of Russia has continued its second year of war within Ukraine but his stronghold has yet to be reinforced after the unsuccessful Wagner rebellion.

Newly-coronated King Charles III was also on the list as he formally accepted the Crown and the responsibilities he had long been waiting for - ruling the British Monarchy and the Commonwealth nations.

Chinese President Xi Jinping's third term has put him on the list again, cementing his reign as one of the biggest and most powerful world leaders on the planet today.

Technology shifted this year with the prominence of Artificial Intelligence. OpenAi CEO Sam Altman's influence and groundbreaking work have continued to strike debates and conversations about how AI impacts the world right now and in the future.

Barbie is also on this year's Person of the Year shortlist. The toy doll has splashed the world in Pink as Greta Gerwig's "Barbie" became the highest-grossing film of 2023. The pop culture phenomenon has paved the way for people to finally say that "Cinema is Back!"

"Barbie" ended its press tour after two premieres, this is because the Screen Actors Guild - AFTRA (SAG-AFTRA) has announced a strike along with the Writers Guild of America (WGA). The historic joint strike saw Hollywood actors and writers in the streets. Thankfully, the pens started writing again and cameras were already rolling as they struck up a monumental contract with the big Hollywood studios and streamers.

Lastly, Trump prosecutors are also being considered for recognition as they served the first US President indictment that spanned 90 charges across Florida, Georgia, New York, and Washington, D.C.
