Ty Segall's new music video for "Manipulator," the title track for his most recent album, is both a visual and playful delight.
Segall's label, Drag City, debuted the colorful, papier-mâché video on YouTube today (Sept. 8), but there was a second option available on his website. Instead of just listening to the song and watching the action, fans can "manipulate" certain objects in the video. This trippy feature allows the viewer to change colors of the background, transform pictures on the wall and even see what's inside Segall's cartoon head. The interactive nature of the video works well with Segall's bouncy, synth-heavy track.
Manipulator was released last month and is Segall's seventh studio album. The album was met with generally positive reviews. "Does Segall's songwriting break new ground? Not really — but Manipulator is rarely boring even so, and always exceedingly likable," Rolling Stone wrote.
Segall is currently right in the middle of a lengthy tour that began in June at Bonnaroo and will wrap up in November overseas in London.
