Snoop Dogg has recently named Kat MacLean Daley as the first Vice President and Head of Publishing of the iconic Death Row Records. This announcement comes on the heels of Snoop's acquisition of the legendary record label in 2022, signifying a new era for the company.

Daley, a seasoned professional with an illustrious career in the music industry, has been tasked with overseeing the day-to-day operations of Death Row Records' music division, with a specific focus on the development of their newly established publishing business. Her role extends beyond the confines of a traditional executive, as she endeavors to expand the label's existing catalog and roster while fostering relationships with writers, producers, and estates associated with Death Row.

Snoop Dogg, the visionary behind this strategic move, expressed his confidence in Daley, stating, "Kat's already a legend in the world of clearances and publishing, and her drive and discipline were what I wanted to bring to Death Row." He emphasized the importance of properly licensing and compensating the talented individuals who have been a part of Death Row for over three decades. Snoop believes that Daley is the ideal person to preserve the label's storied history while also contributing to the creation of future chapters.

Who was Daley before Death Row?

Before joining Death Row, Daley made a significant impact during her tenure at Universal Music Group. Commencing as a college marketing representative in 2016 while at Berklee College of Music, she climbed the ranks and eventually became the Director of Music Sampling and Business Development at Universal Music Publishing Group. During her time at UMPG, Daley implemented processes and data tracking standards, clearing samples for more than 1,300 released songs, including works by artists like Drake, Jack Harlow, Doja Cat, 'Lil Nas X, Beyoncé, Cole Swindell, and contributions to the "Barbie" soundtrack.

Expressing her enthusiasm about joining Death Row, Daley stated, "I am beyond hype to be joining Death Row! I'm extremely grateful for my time at UMPG - I felt like I completed what I set out to do there, so it was time for the next challenge, the next mission." Daley highlighted her collaboration with Snoop to modernize existing deals, explore innovative ways to leverage and license the label's legendary catalog, and elevate Death Row to the forefront of people's minds and playlists.
