Janelle Monàe was one of the few people who got the chance to work with Prince when he was still alive and she recently reflected in an interview on how she was mentored by the legendary singer years ago.

The "Pynk" hitmaker recently appeared in an interview with Jennifer Hudson on her talk show where she happily shared her experience with the iconic musician, especially the time when both of them took the stage together for a concert.

During the conversation, Hudson revealed that she never got the chance to work with Prince, but Monàe assured her that the late singer adored her.

"He loved you. I remember talking about you - he loved you and that just speaks to the type of person he was. I think he was a big advocate for artists, for Black women in particular," she said.

Janelle Monàe Recalls Working With Prince

Later on, the "Dirty Computer" songstress recalled one time when Prince called her.

"I opened up for him - I wanna say this was The Forum. I did Madison Square Garden and I also did The Forum, and this was my set opening for him, and he came out during our set and performed our song we have together," she said.

The track they collaborated on was "Give 'Em What They Love" from her album "The Electric Lady" released in 2013.

During their show, fans were surprised as Prince appeared on stage during the headliner's performance even though they don't do that to hype the crowd.

"For him to do that ... he never let his mystery get in the way of his mentorship," she added.

Prince Worked With Janelle Monàe Until His Death

In a separate interview with The Guardian, the musician noted that the legendary singer helped her "collect sounds" for her 2018 album "Dirty Computer" before his passing.

She noted at the time that it was hard to open up about the topic because it was Prince who helped her in the first place.

Monáe also gushed that she dedicated a lot of her music to Prince as he contributed many things not just in the music industry, but also for Black people.

Prince passed away in 2016. He was 57 years old.
